Somer February is an artist from Johannesburg, South Africa. She started her movement journey training in Rhythmic and Tumbling Gymnastics while also engaging in Ballet classes. She later ventured into various styles and had the privilege to work and perform with esteemed South African choreographers and artists such as Phume Sikhakhane, Kingsley Beukes, Angela Revie and Adele Blank. She also received scholarships and training opportunities from the Royal Academy of Dance and Bolshoi Ballet Academy throughout her upbringing.
Somer made her professional debut in 2019 with the KMAD Dance Company under direction of Kelsey Middleton before relocating to the United States to begin her studies at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee, receiving the Alwin Nikolais/Murray Louis named scholarship. Here, she trained closely with professors Kurt Douglas, Brian McGinnis, Ruka Hatua-saar, Anthony Burrell, Russell Clarke, Marissa Parmenter and more.
She has had the honor of performing new works by Aszure Barton, T.Lang, Levi Marsman, Joy Davis, Brian McGinnis, Christopher Kinsey and repertoire by Paul Taylor and Jawole Willa Jo Zollar.
Somer always aims to expand her movement knowledge and has attended programs with The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, Gibney Dance and SpringBoard Danse Montreal.
Somer graduated Magna Cum Laude in the Spring of 2023 with her BFA in Contemporary Dance Performance with a minor in Creative Entrepreneurship.
